Canoeing in Alaska photoAlaska Canoe Adventures

Canoes are the traditional mode of river travel in Alaska. The quiet and simplicity of Alaska river canoeing allows us to take in our surroundings slowly. From the Western Arctic to the Gates of the Arctic to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, we find excellent rivers to paddle. We have a small fleet of folding canoes designed in Norway and a few inflatable canoes as well. Depending on the size of the group, there will be one to two guides on each trip, though not in each boat. Arctic Wild guides will provide canoeing instruction, and you need not be an expert paddler. We choose canoes over rafts where the added freedom and speed of a canoe is desired.

On “travel days”, everyone works as a team to load and unload the boats and maneuver safely down the river. Though we often have an end destination in mind, and some days may be challenging, ample time is allowed for leisurely picnic lunches and exploration. Our Alaska river canoeing trips frequently include one, two, or three layover days, spent hiking, relaxing, or both.
